  • I dont know what to do.

its gotten to a point where ive tried harming myself multiple times, I dont know what I did wrong, the first time I felt like this is when my mom started telling me about how I eat too much to to make her happy I just kinda stopped eating in general. I would do things she would ask of me and then I would be yelled at if it wasn't perfect, but if I didnt do it I would still be yelled at. The worst part of all is if I ever bring it up to her ill be shamed for it, "all you ever want is attention" "you're so stupid I wish I would have smothered you when you were a baby" I hear things like this every day from her, but im too scared to tell anyone not even my closest friends and I don't have any family that can help me. What do I do?

    Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to us, we understand it can be a hard step to take. We’re glad you reached out and we’ll try to help as best we can. You mentioned experiencing emotional abuse which may be reportable against your mom. It sounds like the words your mom uses have been very harmful to you, you do not deserve to be spoken to in this way by anyone. Unfortunately, emotional abuse is often harder to provide evidence for compared to physical abuse which is often what CPS relies on when conducting an abuse investigation. That said, we can’t be 100% sure what the outcome will be if your local CPS decides to open a case based on what you share. Sometimes CPS decides to remove minors from the home and other times they offer services such as family counseling or mediation instead. The only way to know the outcome might be to reach out to them directly and if you’re ready to do that we are here to help you through that process. Reaching out to Child Help USA at 1-800-422-4453 or www.childhelp.org may help to get a better understanding of what may happen before and after a report is made.

If you’re not ready or simply do not want to consider reporting what’s going on that is completely okay too! We are here to listen and support you as best we can. If you need someone to help talk through options with you or just listen, please reach out to us.
We hope this helps. Please reach out if we can offer any further support.

    Be safe,
    NRS
