  • My family is too noisy any suggestions besides headphones or earplugs!???

What can I do about selfish parents who thinks being so loud by shouting, making annoying obnoxious sounds on purpose and yelling in the day time is okay?
I can’t handle living with my parents at the moment when they also have kids over at the house screaming annoyingly!
They think its not distracting or disturbing which is CRAZY!!! headphones or having music on is not a good option it’s still too loud that I can hear them even if my door roomed is being closed!!! I just want them to lower down their voices but if I ask them all hell breaks loose they will put blames on me to say that nothing is always about me?!!!!

Thank you for contacting NRS, we really appreciate you taking the time to share what is happening at home. From what you have told us it sounds like your parents are not considering how you are feeling and that must be really frustrating for you. You have every right to feel this way and we can understand why using headphones/earplugs would not be a good option.

It is great that you have been brave and asked your parents to lower their voices; I am sorry they have not respected your wishes. It can be really difficult living in a family especially where there are a lot of people around. It might be a good idea to find some other places you could go to have some quiet time like a local library or a relative’s house.

At NRS we offer the option to conference call with youth and parents, this gives you a chance to talk things through with your parents where you will be treated fairly and able to voice your feelings. We make sure the call is balanced and both sides can talk about the situation so together we can come up with a solution. You can phone us through our hotline (800-786-2929) and someone will be able to help set that up for you.

Please remember we are here for you if you need any support, you can also call speak to us 24/7 via the hotline or chat (1800runaway.org). We hope to hear from you soon and wish you good luck in your situation.

Thank you for writing to us here at National Runaway Safeline (NRS). We understand it takes great courage to reach out, and we appreciate you sharing a little bit about what’s going on.

We're sorry to hear about your challenges at home. We understand it's really hard when it feels like you’re trapped at home with your family, and that must be really frustrating for you.

It can be difficult in a family where there are a lot of people around. It might be a good idea to find some other places you could go to have some quiet time like a local library. Sometimes just talking or writing about a situation can open things up to finding a way to cope with things too. Or perhaps you might consider speaking with your family about the ways you feel. While that might be a difficult conversation to have, you deserve to be heard.

It sounds like you’ve been very strong and we want you to know that you’re not alone. Often, having a safe space to share how you’re feeling may bring a variety of solutions previously not thought of. You can call speak to us 24/7 via the hotline or chat (1800runaway.org). We hope to hear from you soon and wish you good luck in your situation.
