Thank you for reaching out to the National Runaway Safeline AND for stepping up to assist a friend in need. Hopefully your friend knows how much you really care about him as shown here by your trying to help!

Obviously you and your friends have discussed helping your friend and have found that all of the parents aren’t able to assist, making me guess that the laws in the state you live in bar harboring someone underage. It’s also unfortunate that your friend’s parents are making living situation so toxic. First thought would be to see if your friend might have an older relative or adult to talk to for guidance on how to deal with the situation he is currently in. It might be possible for and Aunt or older Sibling knowing both parties to be of real assistance. Also, NRS would be glad to speak to speak directly your friend to talk through a few options such as Transitional Living Program or a facility close to where you all live that would provide a safe place to go and possibly counseling for your friend.

We can be reached 24/7 at 1-800-Runaway or 1-800-286-2929 or via our Chat Line at www.1800runaway.org . Encouraging your friend to call would be very good so that we can get more specifics about his situation and hopefully help him out. Again, thanks for reaching out to NRS! Good luck with what you are all doing for your friend!

    I Have Nowhere to Go

Hello, a friend of mine wants to run away from home due to his parents abuse. He has nowhere to go, all of his friends, myself included, live with their parents and their parents aren’t willing to help him. His family doesn’t care much and his mom would find out immediately. His mom can’t be contacted or he will be in an emergency situation, which puts most shelters off the table. I don’t know what to do to help him, and his mother is threatening him. He can’t go to CPS because of past reasons, and it just seems hopeless. Is there any advice?
