    Re: My mother and father

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us at the National Runaway Switchboard and we hope we could help in some way. It sounds like you are dealing with a lot of trust issues around your family right now and we hear you on the fact that life could be very frustrating when trying to balance out restrictions placed on you when issues like this come up with parents. You stated that you did not call home after one hour and that led to your parents going crazy on you. Did your parents go off on you because you were one hour over your curfew? Or did they feel like it was necessary to apply strict rules simply because they think it is the best way to protect you from situations that could be harmful to you? How late was it and what type of area do you travel within? How long have you been thinking of running away? Is running away the only option for you or are you able to think of some other way to deal with what is happening at home? What needs to change at home for you to be more comfortable there? Are there ways for you to work out the trust issues around your parents at this point. If you were able to get your parents to understand that it was only one mistake and you plan to work on it in the future, do you think that they might see things differently? One way to gaining trust is to show that you are willing to confront the issues and work things out. Are you able to show your parents that you are able to do right by certain rules in order for you to have a better relationship with them and for you mom and dad to have a better understanding of you.

We are not able to tell you if it is right or wrong to runaway from home but we are able to talk about options with you. Do you have a plan for where you want to go? Who might you stay with if you decided to run away? Are there other family members you are able to stay with for some time to cool off a bit? Do you have any money? Say you did have some money saved up. How far can you stretch your money for the amount of time you need to stay away? Are you willing to start a conversation with your parents to let them know about the way you feel, not to be trusted? What are some ways you are able to get your parents to start listening to how you really feel? Are they the type of parents who are willing to compromise? We are here to listen to you and answer any of your questions if you choose to call us at 1800Runaway. We are here 24 hrs a day and our liners are qualified to help you with figuring out the best options available to you. If we were to give any advice it is to figure out a plan first before you choose to run. What are your expectations for what life is going to be like if you run and what do you expect it to be like if and when you return home? These are just some things for you to consider in the mean time and we look forward to your call. Good luck.

    My mother and father

my parents don't understand me at all. I forget to call home one time when I'm at a friends house for an hour and they go crazy on me. I have though about running away a few times and I think that this is what I want to do.
