  • i cant deal with it anymore

I cant stand my family anymore. My dad only cares about himself. He doesnt know when my birthday is or my brothers. if my mom isnt feeling good and we are shopping, he doesnt care. he just tells her to suck it up and she will live. Oh, but if he isnt feeling good because he has a bit of a cold then its like we have to drop everything were doing and rush him home. If my mom goes on a business trip, he wont even feed us. luckly i am 14 and my brother is 16 and we can feed ourselves but its been like that since i was young. He also doesnt care about anyones feelings. He told one of his wierd friends that he can have one of MY cats without even discussing it with me. And then he got mad at me for telling him that the guy can not have one of my cats.
And my mom, she has like anger management problems. She is consistently yelling. If you tell her that she needs to just calm down, she will just start yelling more. And also, she makes us do tons of chores. We hardly ever get a break. If we sit down to watch tv, she will tell us we are lazy and spoiled. She acts like she doesnt ever get any spending money yet she just got a flatscreen and she gets pretty much everything she wants. I can never talk to her about anything because then she goes against everything I say.
In my conclusion, i can not runaway obviously ( I wish I could), but i would like to be out of the house as much as possible. Is there anywhere a 14 year old can get a job or anything that i can do just to get away? Thanks

Re: i cant deal with it anymore

Thank you for posting a bulletin. We are glad that you reached out to us during this difficult time. Sounds like things have been hard on you at home to the point where you want to be out of the house as much as possible. It is is understandable that you would feel like your dad doesn’t care about you when he doesn’t remember important things like your birthday. Sounds like things have been hard on you and your brother when your mom is gone on business trips. It is good that you are able to make your own meals though. Have you been able to talk to anyone about what has been going on at home (brother, friend, relatives, counselor, teacher, neighbor or someone you trust)? Sometimes it can be nice to know that you have someone to talk to for support. We are sorry to hear that your dad tried to give your cat away without discussing with you. We are glad that you were able to let your dad know that you didn’t agree with him giving your cat away though.

Sounds like things have been hard on you and your brother when your mom is gone on business trips. It is good that you are able to make your own meals for yourself. Do you feel that home isn’t safe? We do not determine what is unsafe home environment, but if you feel that you are in immediate danger; you should call 911. You can also talk with Child Protective Services (CPS) if you feel unsafe. CPS is focus on keeping children safe. You can make a report with them and they will determine what their next step will be. You can also ask them what their next step will be. You can contact Child Help USA for general informaiton or view their website: http://www.childhelp.org/.

We are sorry to hear that your mom has anger management and is yelling at you. That can make it hard to communicate with your mom and dad when that happens. It sounds like it would be difficult to talk with your mom when you are feeling like she goes against what you are saying. It can be frustrating when we are trying to communicate with a person and feel like they aren’t listening to what we are saying.

We are a 24/7 confidential, and nonjudging crisisline. We won’t tell you what to do or give advice. However, we can discuss possible options with jobs for you and local resources. We are here to listen and provide support. You are welcome to call us to discuss in more detail about your situation. Our phone number is 1800RUNAWAY (786-2929). We look forward in talking with you and want you to be safe!

    Take care

Re: i cant deal with it anymore

Thank you for responding Well I do try to talk to some of my friends about this stuff and one of my friends is kind of having the same stuff going on in her home. She was to the point where she was about to run away (as was i at the time). She could relate but she never really comforted me or gave me advice. My best friends mom and my mom are friends so i cant really say too much to her. All my other friends dont know me that well and i kinda like to keep my family life and (school) life seperate. My home is safe, really safe actually, but my dad is just selfish. He will only do things for himself without even caring about the rest of us. it just gets really frustrating and sometimes even embarrassing when he does some stuff. As for the job, I talked to my parents and they said they would not allow me to get a job. School will be starting in about a month so i guess i can just wait till then and join in after school clubs. Thanks

Thank you for sharing a little more about your situation. We are glad to hear that you have a friend that you can talk to. It can be nice to have someone that can relate to you and your situation. Have you let your friend know that you would like her advice? It perfectly fine not to want to share your home life with some people and it is completely your choice to make. We are glad that you feel safe at home though. Sounds like you are frustrated with your dad and feel that he is selfish. It is great that you have thought about school starting back up in a month and looking to join a club. If you ever feel like talking more about what’s on your mind; you are welcome to call anytime! We can be reached at 1800RUNAWAY (786-2929). Best wishes!
