  • Running away to an orphanage

I've been verbally and physically abused for a long period of time, my parents have stopped once I got a Therapist involved. But I just don't feel safe anymore at home and I can't look my parents in the eyes. Could I run away to an orphanage or an adoption center? Do I need to change my identity? I'm worried about what would happen if I did run away but my parents found me again.

I came to a Clinic to talk to a professional in hopes that they would contact the police and the police would arrest my parents. That didn't happen, while the police did get involved, they only brought me in for questioning and then left. They wanted to talk to my siblings too, but neither of them wanted to talk to the police.

    Hi,
Thank you for reaching out, we are glad that you did. It sounds like you have been going through a lot for a long time with your parents being verbally and physically abusive. You don't deserve to be treated this way and we are very glad that you have a therapist now and that they have stopped the worst of their treatment of you.

It sounds like you have been trying to reach out to police and agencies to help you get out of your house. The hard part is that because your parents have legal custody, they would have to agree to give up their parental rights in order for this to happen. Your therapist can contact your state's Child Protective Services if they think your life is in danger from physical abuse. That is when police would get involved. You can also discuss filing an abuse report yourself by contacting Child Help at 1-800-422-4453, www.childhelp.org

We understand that his is difficult information to hear, but given the limited information in your post, this is the answer we have for now. We hope that you will reach out to us so that we can have a conversation. You can call us at 1-800-786-2929 (1-800-RUNAWAY) or
    via live chat through www.1800runaway.org
We truly hope to hear from you soon.
    Sincerely,
