Re: i want to run away but i don't know if my plan is good

    Hi, thanks for reaching out!

It sounds like you are in a difficult situation and trying to make a plan for running away. Here at the National Runaway Safeline, we are not legal experts, but we can give general information. Running away is typically not a crime, but can be a status offense. This means that minors can get involved with the police if they run away because laws state that minors are too young to run away. If your parents file a runaway report and the police find you, they would simply bring you back to your parents. If you stay with people, there are laws about people who harbor runaway youth, and they may get in trouble if you stay with them.

Since you brought up a plan, we can talk a little bit about how people survive when they run away. The National Runaway Safeline has a page specifically for people who are considering running away: https://www.1800runaway.org/2012/11/...-running-away/. This link may help you begin to think about what else you might want to consider in your plan. As far as your plan goes, it seems like you have thought of a way to get food during the weekdays, but it doesn’t sound like you have found a way to get food on the weekends when school is not in session. You also seem like you have a solid idea of where you would sleep, so you might want to consider that before you run away. You mention bringing a knife and a bowl for fire, but not if you have ever used fire and knives to survive outside before. It also sounds like you intend to make bracelets for money, so it might be a good idea to make and sell bracelets and see if you make enough money doing so to survive on your own. In case you wind up without shelter, or if you wind up without access to food or water, or face violence, we may be able to help you get in touch with resources that will help you stay safe if you call 1-800-RUNAWAY.

Again, thanks a lot for reaching out! It shows a lot of responsibility to try to see if your plan is safe and to try to get help.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.

        Hi!
Thank you so much for reaching out to us. We are here to help you and support you as best we can. It looks like you might be in a very frustrating situation, but it’s very courageous of you to reach out and ask for help.
It’s understandable to feel the way you do. It seems you are being ignored and that is not ok. What you described might be considered abuse in the form of neglect.
Again, it’s not ok to be treated the way you are being treated, but you do have many options.
We will offer some of them, and provide some resources for you, but the best way we can help you is by offering resources based on details you provide while talking over the phone or by chatting online.
One option you have is talking to school personnel. Have you spoken to your counselor or social worker at school? You can also talk to your favorite teacher about what is going on at home.
Another option is talking to other relatives such as aunts, uncles, or grandparents. Maybe they can help your situation by talking to your parents. Have you considered spending some time living with relatives?
Here at NRS, we offer 2 mediation services.
The first is a messaging service. We can relay a message to your parents on your behalf. For us to do this, however, you must call us and give us the message over the phone.
We also offer a conference call option. If you call us, we can mediate a conference call between you and your parents.
If you’re feeling sad or depressed, the following hotline can help you: 1-800-273-8255.
We have many other resources for you, but would need for you to call us or chat with us online through our website.
Again, we’re really glad that you reached out to us. It takes a lot to ask for help and you are trying to figure out your options which is really good to see. If you would like to talk further about your situation, please do not hesitate to call or chat with us.
You can reach us online at www.1800runaway.org or by phone at 1-800-786-2929
We’re here to listen, here to help.
