The reason I want to run is I've been battling depression and anxiety, I tried suicide more then twice and my parents don't care. I'm afraid of them finding me and putting me back into the mental hospital and not letting me talk to my bf ever again. I know I'm gonna miss him, but I can't keep living with my parents, if I do I think I'll go insane. They cause me so much anxiety that it turned into self harm, I can't stop cutting if I am still living with them. I want to run but I'm scared, does anyone have any tips to help me?

Re: I want to run away but I'm afraid, what do I do?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to us here at the National Runaway Safeline. It seems like you've been going through a very difficult time lately, and it is very brave of you to tell us about it.
First of all, it sounds like you're experiencing some pretty intense emotions. At NRS, we recognize how important one's mental health is, as it can impact one's emotional well-being, quality of life, and safety. If you are not in touch with a mental health professional and would like to be, you could give us a call at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) and we could find you resources in your area. Another thing you could try is calling the National Suicide Hotline (1-800-273-TALK or http://youmatter.suicidepreventionlifeline.org/) or SAMHSA (1-877-726-4727 or https://www.samhsa.gov/). Please feel free to reach out to us, or any of these numbers, if you would like support through this tough time.
Also, it sounds like you are experiencing some problems with your parents that are making you want to run away. Since your safety is a priority, it's important to consider how you can take care of yourself when you run away. This includes things such as affording food and finding shelter. One thing you could do is stay with a friend or a different family member. However, it is important to consider laws against harboring runaways that could possibly get your friends/family in trouble if you are underage and stay with them. Another thing you could do is give us a call and we could help you find shelter resources in your area. As far as affording food, it may be a good idea to raise some personal funds before running away.
On the other hand, if you think your parents' behavior qualifies as neglectful of emotionally abusive, you could also give us a call and we could help you file a report with the police.
Once again, thank you for reaching out to us. We hope to hear from you soon, and we wish you the best of luck. Take care! Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
