    Re: Question about possible abuse

Thank you for reaching out to NRS! It sounds like you’ve been going through a lot of really hard stuff in school and at home. If you ever feel that you are in danger of hurting yourself, you can consider calling us for support. We want you to know that you are worth it and that there is hope for you. We are here to support you and help you in any way we can.

We’re not legal experts here at NRS, and definitions on child abuse vary by state. If you want more information about abuse or abuse reporting, you could consider calling Child Help USA at 1-800-422-4453 for more information. There are many resources out there that could help you get support, work through issues at home, or get help with anything else you need. If you would like more information about resources or if you want to talk more about what’s been going on, you can call us at 1-800-RUNAWAY (1-800-786-2929) or chat with us online.

Again, thank you for reaching out. You’ve been going through a lot of really hard stuff, but you’ve shown strength by reaching out for help. If you ever need anything in the future feel free to call us or chat with us online. We’re always here to listen and here to help.

    Question about possible abuse

I'm a 14 year old girl and my mom as well as my sister and brother have been smoking cigarettes in the house around me. My mom has been doing it for as long as I can remember, my sister for a year and my brother for three and a half. My mom's also having difficulty coping with the death of my father who passed away last April and she has started drinking. I've talked to all of them about stopping because I was being bullied at school and cutting, but they all ignored me. I'm very frustrated because I have no relatives that I can go to, and they would all be on my mom's side anyways. I looked up the laws for child abuse in my state and they didn't say anything about smoking, but I did have bronchitis when I was younger as a result, so my questions are: Is this physical abuse? If so, what should I do?
