  • I want to run away, but i'm 12.

Hi everyone! I'm a 12 year old girl living in Florida, and I just want to run away, but theres an issue. My age. I can't earn money when i'm 12, and it's gonna be tough. Florida is a huge state. My mom yells at me everyday, and I just can't take it anymore. She claims that i'm the reason that she'll be unhappy on mothers day, It's gotten to the point where i'm crying almost every week. From what I remember, she's yelled at me, once she hit me on the back with a brush, she's called me '********ing lazy', and more.

I just want to be happy, for once. Not have to constantly cry or be scared that my mom is going to yell at me. Please help.

Hello and thanks so much for posting on our forum!

It sounds like you are seriously considering running away and unfortunately have reached an issue in planning due to your age. Unfortunately, finding a legal source of income under the age 14 can be extremely tough. Please know we are not here to judge you and we do care about your safety. At the same time, we recognize that there may be reasons you are wanting to run including how your mom yells at you every day. That sounds incredibly stressful and invalidating. You don’t deserve to be cursed at or hit, regardless of whether or not it only happened one time. It is understandable to want to be happy and we are certainly here to talk to you about options including coping skills you might try while you work out a plan.

We invite you to chat with us live so that we can continue talking about your situation:

Another resource you might find helpful is Child Help: Hopefully that helps and we wish you the best of luck!

Hi I understand where you are comeing from my mom sounds a lot like yours. she always favors my brother and yells at me. she has also strangled and hit me. i cant runaway bc of laws in my state. but here is my advice, get out of the house as much as possible. Ride your bike, spend time with your dad (if he is a part of your life), hangout at friends houses as much as possible, etc.
      Good Luck!
