  • Broken.

Today was the day everything finally fell apart in my home. For the past month, my Dad has been verbally harassing me, berating, and threatening me.

Now he is telling me it's all my fault, and he also is accusing me of theft of something I don't even know. (He is not telling me what is missing) as well as accusing me of being a liar because I have dishes in my room and did not tell anyone.

He has barged into my room at all hours, rooting around in an attempt to find something. I don't know what it is. He has threatened to hit me and toss me out.

I'm 18. I have a job but no drivers license. He drove me to and from work unless I had a friend or an uber. Yesterday he wanted me to drive around, and I did. In an effort to get my license. But all he did do was berate me and ask if i was drunk, stupid, and so on.

His motto basically is If you don't like it, you're 18. Get out.

I just can't stop crying right now because I just don't know what to do.

    RE: Broken.

    Hello There!

Thanks for reaching out to us at the National Runaway Safeline. It is a great first step to finding the help and information that you may need.
It sounds like you are going through a lot lately with your relationship wit your father. It is great that you are staying strong and trying to figure out what to do. It sounds like having a job is a great thing to have in preparation to possibly become more independent and in a place where you feel safe and happy.
If you want to talk more about what you think is best for you the best form of communication is to call us or live chat with us since email/forums are not a great way to have a cohesive back and forth conversation. We are always here to listen and help as best as we can. We can talk about your future plans and safety planning for your current situation.

    Best Wishes,
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
