Re: I want a mental break
Hi there,
Thank you so much for reaching out to us here at the National Runaway Safeline. It sounds like things are really hard for you at home due to the past trauma that you’ve experienced. This has to be tough for you and we’re sorry you’re having to go through this. It can’t be easy to feel anxious about your stepdad coming over and staying over. You deserve to feel safe in your own home.
It sounds like you have talked with your mom about your concerns, and she has not been entirely forthcoming about the circumstances with your stepdad. This has to be frustrating. If you would like to try to talk this out with her with support from a third party, you may look into counseling services. It sounds like you have done this before which is where you determined what this trauma stemmed from. Here at the National Runaway Safeline, we have a large database of different resources in which we can try to find some local counseling services to you. Alternatively, you could call us here at (800) RUNAWAY and we could facilitate a conference call with you and your guardian, to try to mediate the conversation and help reach a compromise and make sure each of you are heard.
It sounds like you are just trying to escape this situation and it’s understandable why you would want out. You don’t deserve to be constantly worrying about your safety at home. We’re not here to tell you what you should or should not do, we’re just here to help keep you safe and come up with a plan that works for you. If you decide that leaving is the only option, you can call us any time and we can try to locate a shelter for you. As a heads up, shelters do require consent or notification from your legal guardian in order to stay, often within the first 24 hours, so this tends to be a temporary option.
Please, do not hesitate to call or chat. We’re here to help you in any way that we can here at the National Runaway Safeline. We look forward to talking more about your situation.
Best,
NRSPlease remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
