hello, im 17 and live with my mother. we don't really have a great relationship, especially in the last couple years. we fight nonstop and to be honest I'm just fed up. we got in a fight today and she told me she did not like spending time with me, called me a ********** and an asshole, kept comparing me to my drug addict father, and pulled my hair until it started coming out. I'm just so tired of going through this with her and I think both of us would be happier if I could get out of the house somehow but I know that she would never give me permission because she doesn't want to look like a bad parent. is there any other option for me? I have a friend that has told me I could stay there if I ever needed to and I turn 18 in just a couple months. would I be able to legally stay there somehow without her giving consent?

Thank you for reaching out to the National Runaway Safeline. It takes a lot of courage to ask for help. You don’t deserve to be treated this way, and we want to make sure that you are safe. If you are in immediate danger, calling 911 or using other emergency services is a good idea.
We are not legal experts, and the best way to get legal advice is through legal aid organizations. For this situation specifically, it is possible your mother will file a runaway report if you stay with a friend. It is also a possibility that your friend’s family will be charged with harboring a minor. However, because you are close to turning 18, the police would not likely make the report a priority. If you don’t feel safe at home, you could reach out to your friend’s family or another adult about talking to the DCFS or the police about the abuse.
Again, we’re really glad that you reached out to us. It takes a lot to ask for help and you are trying to figure out your options which is really good to see. If you would like to talk to us further about your situation, please do not hesitate to call or chat with us. We’re here to listen, here to help.
