  • Living at home is starting to become unbearable

I'm 16 and I live with my mom and stepdad (of three years). My stepdad has always been strict and hes very intense. My mom and him have had some pretty bad fights,
he can get pretty violent as in throwing things, slamming doors, yelling... We make it a priority to go to church and work as a family to become stronger and closer.
Which was fine in the beginning, but the more this happens I can't stand him anymore. I don't love him, I don't like him, and I pray everyday that he will just leave.
Me and brothers will get our stuff taken away.. (phone, TV, games, etc.) if we don't bring home all A's from school, don't do our chores correctly and etc. I get that
as parents that's there job but I don't care about giving him what he wants anymore, why does he deserve our respect when he acts the way he does.. I want to leave so
bad.. My real dad isn't the most financially stable right now all though it would be possible to stay with him, I have absolutely no one to talk to in my family, and
friends are fine to talk to but they can't help me in any way... I don't know what to do. I am always home and I never can go anywhere to just get away for awhile.

Thank you for taking the time to write to us here at the National Runaway Safeline. We are sorry to hear that your step father is so strict that you don’t want to live there anymore. It is understandable why you would want to leave a place like this. You mentioned that you would like to go and live with your real dad, but he is not in the best finical position for you to do so. One thing that you can propose to your family is that you go and spend a few days with your dad, just to get a way for a while. If you do not feel comfortable bringing that up to them then perhaps you can consider using our conference calling service, this is a service where you would call us and we would hold a conference call between you and your parents to talk about how both sides are feeling. We would serve as mediators, we are not here to necessarily choose sides but rather help come up with a solution that would make the situation at home better. This might be helpful to you if you have concerns about your parents not listening or not being open to hear what you have to say. If you feel like this is a service that you would find useful you can give us a call and one of our trained liner will be happy to assist you. 1-800-RUNAWAY
