Re: Should I Run away or not?
Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to post to us here at the National Runaway Safeline.
It sounds like you are thinking about running away from school because you failed and you do not want to face your friends and family. It sounds like you are set on running away but you do not know what to take with you or how you would keep yourself safe.
There’s a lot to think about when leaving home. Do you have anyone who would be willing to let you stay with them? How do you think your parents would react to you leaving? As a minor, some things to keep in mind are that your parents could file a runaway report with the police. In this case, if you are picked up by the police, they could return you home. It’s also good to keep in mind that anyone you stay with could be at risk for harboring a runaway. Fortunately running away doesn’t usually have any legal consequences, but harboring is often considered a misdemeanor. You mentioned that you ran away before. Did you encounter any of these things?
We do hope that you reach out to us through phone or chat to discuss your situation in more detail. Our goal is to help you find ways to stay safe. We would be happy to look up resources in your area, talk with you about your options, or just listen to what you’re going through.
We hoped this helped and we encourage you to call our 24/7 hotline at 1800.786.2929 or you can chat with us every day from 4:30pm-11:30pm CST. We hoped this helped and we look forward to hearing from you. We wish you the best of luck.
NRSPlease remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.

Re: Should I Run away or not?
Hello there,
We’re so sorry to hear about how you’re doing in school. It sounds really overwhelming and it’s understandable that you’d think that running away will alleviate these feelings of embarrassment from your peers, teachers and family. School is hard and not doing well is frustrating and difficult to overcome.
It sounds like you want to run away as a means to escape what is happening right now. Running away may seem like a good solution full of endless possibilities, but it’s a little more involved than packing the right things and taking enough to eat. There’s a lot to consider beyond just things to bring and we want to make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into.
If you’re set to leave this weekend, it might be helpful to give us a call and talk about the details. We’re not going to tell you not to run away. In fact, we can talk about a plan that would be safe. That’s our number one concern. We’re confidential and can be reached at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Best of luck,
