In the past 3 months my entire life has gone up in flames. A couple years ago, my mom and I moved to France, and I have been really happy there - but my dad hasn't been happy with me there. He is a raging alcoholic even though he repeatedly claims he has been clean for years, and now he is filing for FULL custody and moving me back. I won't be able to see my mom at all anymore and I will have to move back junior year of high school and live with my father who is a horrible, mean, abusive drunk. I want to run away before my life gets even worse, but I have no money and absolutely no where to go since I am already in the US. I know that if I leave I won't have any future, seeing as I would essentially be dropping out of high school, but I can't seem to focus on the future since the present is so horrible and all consuming. I don't know what to do.

Re: I need to leave but I know its impractical
Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to post to us here at the National Runaway Safeline.
It sounds like your father won custody rights over you and now you have to live with him here in the States. We are sorry that all of this has happened to you in such a short amount of time. We know that you said that you were happy back living in France with your mother. Do you know if she is trying to fight to get full or partial custody back of you? We might be able to help you locate some local legal aid who can talk to you more about what rights you and your mother have.
It sounds like your fathers drinking is really affecting your life and your future. We want you to know that we do not have the power to change people but you do have support for what you are going through. Families Anonymous is a 12 Step fellowship for the families and friends who have known a feeling of desperation concerning the destructive behavior of someone very near to them, whether caused by drugs, alcohol, or related behavioral problems. They might be able to show you ways to manage living with your father until you can figure out what is going on with custody.
We hoped this helped and we encourage you to call our 24/7 hotline at 1800.786.2929 or you can chat with us every day from 4:30pm-11:30pm CST. We hoped this helped and we look forward to hearing from you. We wish you the best of luck.
NRSPlease remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
