re: Would my situation be considered emotional and verbal abuse?
Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out to us. From what you shared, you have an attitude problem and your parents tell you that you should fix it. You are wondering if what they are saying to you is considered emotional abuse. Right now, we at NRS are not in a position to tell you whether what your parents say to you is considered abuse. Generally, it is hard to prove verbal abuse to authorities, so it is possible that a number of different agencies may not consider it to be abusive language. It sounds like they don't exactly recognize why you lash out like you do. Maybe you could try talking to them again about what makes you act that way?
Best,
NRS

Would my situation be considered emotional and verbal abuse?
I have been known for having a sharp tongue and a sassy attitude for most of my life. It drives my mom insane and she constantly tells me that I'll be alone in life and I won't have any friends because I'm so mean. She tells me to be nicer and the way I act isn't good enough. I struggle with depression and have cut myself in the past. My therapist had told my parents that my harsh responses and short attitude are my way of expressing my depression since I hate crying. This was pushed under the rug and forgotten since my therapy sessions ended shortly after. I'm confused if this is considered emotional abuse since they won't say anything negative for a few days and then they'll start again. Does this qualify since it more than likely contributed to my depression or since its not consistent it's just considered being a little too harsh and insensitive?Tags: None
