I'm 16 live in California and is considering getting Emancipated. My mother's been so difficult to deal with lately and neglectfuly to the point where I literally have I don't even want a relationship with her anymore. I'm now living out of plastic bags and sleeping on my grandmothers couch. I lived with her once before until my mom had gotten custody of me, at which point they had terminated her guardianship rights. It's day two of living with my grandmother currently and im seriously considering getting a job so I can just live on my own.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to the National Runaway Safeline. It sounds like you’ve been dealing with a lot on your own and we know that not only takes a great deal of strength but also must be extremely tolling on you. We would be happy to help you take the steps you need to take to get your independence through emancipation. We ourselves are not legal experts, but we do have a pool of legal resources that we would be happy to share with you. Additionally, if you want to look into the procedures of getting emancipated, please reach out to your county court and ask them what forms you need to fill out, how you can schedule a hearing, and what the requirements are. If you are interested in those resources or in talking about your situation further, please don’t hesitate to give us a call at 1-800-786-2929 or chat us at 1800runaway.org.
Take care,
NRS
