  • Runaway Laws in Missouri

Hi, i was wondering, If I'm 17 Years old in the state of Missouri. Could I legally leave without my parents permission to go spend the night at my friends house or just to hangout for a little bit? Because for what I've been researching, it seems like I can go somewhere without their permission, Since I'm not moving in with my friend or anything, but I don't fully know the laws yet.

    Hello There,
Thank you for reaching out to The National Runaway Safeline, we are here to help and here to listen.
We are not legal experts but we do have general information on the laws. Because you are a minor if you left without permission you could be considered as a runaway even if it’s for a few hours. Running away is not a crime but if the police do find you they most likely would bring you home.
We hope this information will be helpful to you in your situation. If you have any more questions or would like to explore options please give us a call. We are here 24/7 to listen and to provide support. We wish you the best of luck!

Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
