I am 14 years old, I grew up in a smaller town and have made many close friends there. I was forced to leave and now have to live in a different town where I know absolutely nobody. My mother would never even consider letting me move back home so I don’t know I should do. My closest friend back home would be my best option cause I basically lived there before I even moved. I’m just so scared to even talk to my mom about it. She the kind of mom who cares about me, yeah, but she doesn’t let me have a say in anything and I do whatever she tells me to. I can’t stay here, it’s just to much, I feel like crying every night just thinking about being so far away from all my friends and family, Please help.

Thank you for reaching out to us. It can be really hard to open up and speak about how you are feeling but we are glad you decided to today. It sounds like you are feeling a mix of emotions due to the move and not being able to communicate how you feel to your mother. We do have service that we provide here at NRS were we can do a conference call with you and your mom to help you start the conversation. You would have to contact us at 1800-RUNAWAY in order to receive the service. If you ever want to just talk with a nonjudgmental person about everything you are experiencing you can contact NAMI by texting 741741. Sometimes it helps to vent to family, friends or a therapist about what is going on just so you can get your feelings out in the open. Also with a therapist you can learn some strategies to cope with everything and learn ways to communicate effectively with your mom. It’s understandable that you are feeling such strong emotions being in a new environment and away from the familiar but a lot of that is fear and could go away the more you learn about your new environment. If you decide not to talk to your mom, your other option is to learn to accept the change and find ways to adjust to your new living arrangements.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
