Is giving my custody to a relative legal?

Recently, my mom told me that my summer-long visit with my dad would turn into me living with him. She knows I don't want this, but I decided I will live here for at LEAST a year. However, when this year is over, or possibly to the end of high school if I get attached to my city), I will be returning to my former city.

With returning to my former city, I refuse to stay with my mom, as I'm "returning the favor" of getting rid of family members. Is it legal to give my custody to a relative, such as aunt, grandfather, stepfather, or other steprelatives? I don't want to be with my mom anymore, as I haven't really been able to genuinely be happy (although I throw fake smiles out often to keep them off my tail) besides when I was with my little sister, younger cousin, or friends at school.

Thank you for reaching out to us. It must be shocking to be told that you will no longer be living with your mom. Also learning that you have to be in another city must be frustrating especially if all of your friends and family still reside in your former city. It’s understandable that you would want to return back to the city that you are more familiar with.
We are not legal experts but if you are a minor, meaning under 18, in order for other relatives to receive custody your parents would have to give guardianship to them. On the other hand, if your parents give you permission to live with other relatives than you could but your parents are still your guardians.
