  • Will NRS contact my parents?

If I call NRS for emotional support, questions, comments, or concerns about what would happen to me after this point, (considering I've already run away), would NRS then contact my parents or the local police department after getting off the phone with me?
I am safe, I am still in contact with most of my family who are very supportive of me, and are working to get me a lawyer, and get me out of the house that I am in, and out of my moms custody. If worst comes to worse, I can get emancipated, and my grandmother has agreed to take me in.
My mother has a contract that she was forced to sign by Child Services, claiming that she couldn't lay her hands on me again, or I would be taken out of the home. She hasn't, but the night before I ran away, we got into an argument, and she was threatening to have her 28 year old boyfriend beat me. He is an ex-convict, who has had issues with drugs in the past.
When he arrived home, he approached me, threatening to beat me, claiming that he wasn't afraid of going to jail, he had already been. My mother was egging him on, and taunting me, saying things like, "yeah, come on, say something now chicken."
I told her I was going to go before a court of law when I turned 17 (which is tomorrow), and she claimed that she would make sure I was gone by then. She began looking up military boarding schools, of which she planned to send me today so that I would have no contact with my family, to let them know what was going on, and so that I would not be able to sign myself out of the military school until I was 18 years of age.
Needless to say, I ran away last night.

I need to know what my best bet would be. I really want to call NRS, because I'm scared. I have a safe place until Tuesday. But the police are out looking for me, and if they find me, they have agreed to arrest me.
I'm working on getting a lawyer, I just need to contact NRS to see what I should do next.
I just need to know whether or not NRS is obligated to contact either my parents or the local police department after I call them. I don't want to be forced to go back home..

    Hello,

Yes! Please call in whenever you're willing and able. We're always available, anonymous and confidential. That means we do not need your name and even if you did decide to give it to us, we have no interest in telling anyone you called. When you call in, it's about what you want and how you want the call to go so, no worries.

As far as the details of your situation, sounds like you went through a very tough situation. It's good that you are being safe and taking care of yourself. That seems to be your priority.

Glad to hear that you're willing to call in and figure out where to go next. Please call and you will not have to worry about getting reported, traced, etc. We are here to be available to you, not to turn you in.

We're here 24hrs a day. 1800-RUNAWAY is our hotline number.

    Best of luck,
    -NRS
