  • How do I wait it out for 2-3 more years?

I just turned 14 like 4 days ago, so its nice that im one year closer to legally being able to run away. But, lifes been like hell for the past year or so, much much worse then its ever been. My mom is now arguing and screaming at all of us on a daily basis. Hell, its almost down to the dot, like clockwork! Usually I hide in my room during these times (hopefully my other sibpings will catch on soon) but its living torture just listening to hear scream about how much she hates all of us and how she should be treated better amd how shell just go kill herself cause we all hate her (yeah we do, except favorite child, but thats because shes treated normally by you). Recently shes been calling me upstairs more often and just yelling at me and its really degrading my mental state. I try to shut it out, but its starting to overwhelm me. And when I say anything back, like calling her out on something (like how she yelled at me for not bringing my backpack upstairs-even though my dad told me to give it to him- then started **********ing at my dad for not leaving it with her downstairs, which do you want lady? Me bringing it upstairs or you holding in?) Or even asking a question ill be yelled at, made fun of, or as she likes to call it "teasing" ( yes because calling me a ********bag, satans child, antisocial freak, the thinf you hate the most, etc is just teasing), violence (shell either whack me, throw something at me, or get favorite child to pin me down and whack me, and if I try and deflect or block shell just do it again) or if I dont give her anything out of that shell just take everything out of my room except my bed and closet, until I "apoligize and earn her forgiveness" its hell and honestly dont think I can take another 2-3 years of this. I just want to curl up under my blankets and listen to silence forever. No yelling, screaming, crying, stomping, none of it. So, any tips on surviving this?

    Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to National Runaway Safeline. It sounds like you are dealing with a lot right now with you mom. It can be frustrating when someone keeps putting you down instead of encouraging you and no one should ever be hurting. It is really great that you are reaching out for help it shows a lot thought on your end.
You might want to reach out to a school counselor or another adult you trust. They can offer you some tips in this circumstance and provide a safe place to talk about what is going on at home. Another option could be talking to your dad about this as he might be able to help lessen the conflict between you and your mom. You can always call us and use a conference call option were we could act as a mediator in between your mother and you to make sure you feel heard.

We are here to listen and help.
