  • Going to be 19, Have nowhere to go.

I'm turning 19 in less than two weeks. My life has been a downhill descent for the past 3 years now. My father was in and out of prison during 2015 and 2016. I had to stay out of school alot to help do things around the house. In total, I missed 75 days. I had to repeat a year...

Well... I ended up dropping out. My grades weren't improving, and My home life was too much...

these last few months have been harder and harder. I have no Job, I don't know how to go about getting a GED, and home life is getting worse and worse.

I know I'm legally an adult, and No one is obligated to help me. But I don't know what else I can do, other than become a bum. I just don't know what to do...

    Hello,

Thanks so much for reaching out to us. We are so sorry that things have been so challenging around you. It sounds like the circumstances with your father and your responsibilities at home really made it tough for you to be able to make it through school or find work. It takes a lot of courage to reach out for help, and we want you to know that we're here to support you & help you figure out your next steps.

If you’re looking to live outside of your family home, maybe something like transitional housing would be a good option for you. Unlike emergency shelters, transitional housing is a more long-term place to stay, often with case managers or workers that help youth get on their feet and become more independent. Costs can range from free to a nominal fee once you start working. In many cases, these organizations work with youth to enroll in school and/or help you find work while you stay there. In any case, depending on where you live, we may be able to help you identify local resources that can support you.

If you need help finding an organization near you, or if you just have questions or want to talk to someone, please feel free to reach out to us. We are here for you. We won’t tell you what to do, but we will do our best to help you explore your options, and we will support you in whatever you decide to do. You can reach us 24/7 at 1.800.RUNAWAY (786.2929), every day via chat. We’re here to listen, here to help. Stay safe!

Hi, thank you for reaching out to us. We are sorry that you were taken away and never allowed back to Maryland. We are not legal experts generally and especially not regarding international law and immigration. We did an internet search with the term “apply for US greencard from Pakistan” and https://pk.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas-2/ It looks like having a US citizen sponsor and family connections may help your case. It also looks like everything originates from where you are, in Pakistan. We are sorry that we don’t have any more information to give you except the search term and US Embassy.
We do hope this helps. You can reach us either through our telephone hotline at 1-800-runaway (1-800-786-2929) or our live chat through the website 1800runaway.org We are here for you 24/7 to listen and to help.

        Sincerely, NRS
