  • I've looked into every opinion possible and I'm still stuck

So I live with an ok home. Saying ok I mean I really hate my brother. He isn't nice towards me always drinks the milk and doesn't save any for my father who is dying from an illness, the list could continue. My mom yells at him for this sorta of stuff, she is honestly really nice and knows how to take care of kids especially both of us who have disabilities. But things have taken a toll and its become stressful. I have talked to my friends about it and they don't understand wat I'm putting up with. My mom had a break through when my brother made her cry during a fight they had usually I am normally locked inside my room by this point bc its bothering me. But recently I'm having to lock myself in my room more, some days I'll starve because I'm too scared to come out. This fight recently happened because of my brother who I disowned few weeks ago. I woke up to him playing his guitar on his speaker which being sensitive to sound was bothering me I asked him nicely to turn it down but he didn't I asked again few minutes later until i read my texts from mom and called her like she asked me to. I told mom what he was doing and she said to tell him to turn it off. When i told him that he didn't he refused and started to argue with me. We got really mad at each other until he left the house. I locked the doors until he came back wanting his shoes. I told him no many time I wasn't letting him back in and threw his shoes out the door. I had a bit of peace a bit after until he came back for water. He kept banging on the door like he did last time but I was too afraid to let him in. I mean who wouldn't. I kept texting mom wat was happening and she called my grandma. At this point I showed him a note on my phone saying "I'm too afraid to let u in" he started to cry (which I could tell he was faking it and lying to me the other reason I wasn't letting him in) and he kept pounding the door, the back door, and the window. At this point I was locked into my room again crying and horrified and scared to death I started to text some of my friends online who have been by my side for few months. Until my grandma came into the house and let him in. I ran into my room rocking and just scared. My grandma got me to work after like usual. But even tho it's been a day and hes in the hospital/ going to the mental hospital I don't feel safe anymore and I want out. After the mental hospital he'll come back and then I want to call someone to get me out. But my question is who do I call? I've checked Child Protective services but is that the right call? I've looked into every opinion just to make sure I'm doing this right including running away but I'm still at square one please help?

Hello and thank you for reaching out to the National Runaway Safeline. We are sorry to hear about how difficult your situation with your brother is. It sounds like a really stressful time that is not good for your mental health and it is understandable why you are afraid of him coming back. Unfortunately, moving out as a minor is not as easy as making one phone call. Child Protective Services would usually only separate a youth from their parents if there was abuse going on at the home. If you feel like your brother’s behavior is abusive, then you may want to consider calling the National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-422-4453 in order to learn more about what that process might look like. It sounds like you get along with your grandmother. It might be worth asking your mom and dad if it would be possible to live with her when your brother returns. It could also be worth it to consider the option of counseling. Maybe if you and your brother could talk to a therapist together, you might be able to figure out some of the problems between the two of you. We can help you find resources like that if you are interested. If you are, please don’t hesitate to call us on our 24/7 hotline at 1-800-786-2929 or chat us at 1800runaway.org and we can discuss what other options there might be.

    Take care,

    NRS
