  • Abusive Parents

My mom is mentally and sometimes physically abusive. I have a place to go, but I don't have a job. I plan on getting one. My friends mom says I can move in, but I don't want my mom to find out. How do I go about doing this?

    RE: Abusive Parents

Thank you for your post. It sounds like you are in a really bad situation, and it is understandable that you are thinking about leaving. You do not deserve to be abused in any way. It sounds like you are planning to run away to live with your friend’s mom, but you are concerned about what might happen. If you are under the age of 18, if you leave home you could be considered a runaway. This means that your mom could call the police, who might force you to return home. Running away is not a crime, however anyone who allows you to stay with them could risk criminal charges for harboring a runaway. This means your friend’s family could get in trouble. We are here to listen and support you in any way that we can. We can talk through all your options and help you make a plan to stay safe. We are looking forward to hearing from you soon and wish you the best of luck.
