  • im afraid of my parents and want to leave

My mom and dad and entire extended family are homophobic and my dad is even abusive about the subject - however I am pansexual and can’t deal with the slurs and hate anymore. I want to leave home and fine somewhere safe - but the fear of being found and beaten haunts me. I NEED SOME HELP!

    Hello –

Thank you for contacting us here at the National Runaway Safeline. We understand that it takes great courage to reach out. We are sorry to hear about the way you have been treated. It sounds horrible to receive rejection from someone that should be your caregiver. It sounds like the mistreatment at home is becoming difficult to deal with. You have the right to be who you are, regardless of what your parents think.

Depending on what you are looking for, a great resource for you could be the National Child Abuse Hotline. You can reach them at 1-800-422-4453. You can call them anonymously to learn about the abuse reporting process, or directly report abuse to this line. They are a good resource for talking through your options if there is verbal/mental abuse going on at home. The most important thing is ensuring your safety whether you choose to stay or leave.

Another option could be to discuss this issue with an adult or friend you trust. It can be difficult to feel like you have no support network at home, so talking things out with someone you trust can sometimes help put a different perspective on the situation and help you come up with new solutions.

If you are thinking of running away, it may be best to call into our hotline at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) to learn more about what your options would be and what the best course of action would be if that is what you decide.

We hope the information provided helps. Remember we are available 24/7 and can be toll-free reached at the number listed above. We are confidential, anonymous, and non-direct. We can also be reached via live chat.

    Best Wishes

    ~NRS
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
