Re: I want to run away from home
Hi there,
Thanks for contacting us. It sounds like things aren’t going well at home. It’s great to hear that you have a friend who is supportive that you feel comfortable turning to this friend in this time of need. We’re glad that you are reaching out for help during this stressful time.
It sounds like you are struggling to communicate with your parents. Maybe there’s someone who can be present when you talk to them. Another relative or sibling you trust? If they are very against the idea, maybe your friend’s parent could help by talking to your parents on your behalf.
Sometimes a cool down period is necessary. If they won’t let you stay with a friend, maybe they would be more open to you staying at a youth shelter or with another family member or family friend your parents are more familiar with.
Having a plan B and knowing ahead of time what you are willing to compromise on might make things go easier. Maybe your friend could do a trial run with you so that you practice what you are going to say before meeting with your parents.
We hope this has been helpful and we invite you to contact us through phone or chat if you want to talk in more detail.
Best of luck,

Re: runaway
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out for help. It sounds like you’re in a tough situation with not feeling support and care from your family. On top of all of that, your dad doesn’t let you go to school. This all seems like an incredibly difficult and scary situation. It takes a lot to seek out help in a time like this.
Without having the support you need at home, have you thought about a family member, close friend, or trusted adult? Maybe you could go stay/live with one of them for a while. At the very least maybe you could talk to someone about the situation you’re in and see if anybody closer to the situation has any ideas?
Also, everyone has a right to go to school. It’s not okay that your dad doesn’t let you go to school and is preventing you from getting an education. Is there someone you can talk to about getting involved with school? Or at least bringing the situation to light that you’re not going to school? It sounds like you want to go, and that’s all that matters.
If you’re ever feeling afraid or unsafe, it might be a good option to find a safe place to go. www.Nationalsafeplace.org is good resource to provide different locations around the country that can be a safe space for you to go in trying times.
If you’d like to get some more off of your chest, please feel free to give us a call at 1-800-786-2929 or visit our website at www.1800runaway.org. There is also a chat option where you can reach a liner and chat with us about the situation if you can’t call in.
You’re very brave for reaching out and trying to get help in the difficult situation you’re in. Please stay strong and reach out to us if you ever need.
