  • I want to run away but I don't know what I'd do

Hi.I'm trying to run away from home.My family is homophobic and I'm a lesbian.I have self harmed and I stopped but of my parents found out i'd get in serious trouble. My mom is the worst about this type of stuff. They don't accept me and have abused me (not majorly).I don't want to stay here and none of my family would take me in and they're just like my parents.I know how to run away but I don't know where to go or what to do.Please help me!I really need it.

Thanks for contacting the National Runaway Safeline.

We are sorry to hear you are going through a difficult time at home.
Not having the support of family or be able to confide in family sounds like it has placed you under a lot of stress and vulnerability. We understand that because of their feelings about your sexuality it has made it quite uncomfortable for you to be home.
You reaching out for help is a great step towards dealing with everything.
    Good for you.

It sounds like you might be thinking of leaving but have nowhere to go.
Call NRS at 1-800-Runaway (786-2929) or visit for information on possible emergency youth shelters and other services in your area.
We are here to listen and explore options for help.
Sometimes talking things through might help to get some perspective on the situation and coming up with a plan of action.
    Does that make sense?

It’s important to take care of yourself and it seems you are trying to do just that.
    Good job.
