I am 16year old girl and live with my dad and step mom and step siblings but we don't get along very well. I go to my moms twice a week but she hates me and does not act like she is my mother. And my dad shows no out wered love to me. So I have bin talking to this guy who is quite abit older thin I am, but we have bin talking about I moving in with him and I am 100%on bored with it. ( me and this guy have no relationship other then he is like my dad). I love this guy so much and he's basically my dad. I just don't know how the legal part in this works? Or if I should go and do this???

Re: Im considering moving out of my dads house
Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out to us and sharing your story. It sounds like it’s hard for you to be at home given that you don’t get along very well with your family members. It’s good to hear that you have someone you can stay with who you trust to support you. It’s important that you feel safe and comfortable at home.
You mentioned that you're thinking about leaving home to stay with your friend. If you leave home without permission, your parents could report you as a runaway and the police would be authorized to return you home. If you are reported as a runaway it’s typically just a status offense; however, sometimes people helping runaways are at risk for charges such as harboring a runaway. This charge is often considered a misdemeanor, but might be something to explore if you or whoever you would be staying with are concerned.
There's definitely a lot to think about when running, like how you would get there, how you would enroll in school, and how you would pay for things. We are happy to discuss with you some safe options specific to your situation if you decide to call or chat with us.
Best of luck,
NRSPlease remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
