  • i hate my mom .

i hate my mom and i know this may sound bad but i do . i have never felt so broken by anything before , i try my best to respect her but she does not deserve it . she’s said to me “stop eating , i don’t care if you starve , you’re a disappointment , you ******** up this family , no wonder people hate you , you’re a whore , you’re disgusting , you’re a slut , you look terrible” , and so much more . i cannot go to her with anything , i had been put in a counselor recently for my depression , anxiety , and anger issues . i explained to them how my mom makes me feel , after one session my mom took me out of the counseling because they made her feel like she did something wrong . i’ve been told many times i have no right to be depressed , that she’d make my life a living hell if i ever said i wanted to die , i’ve tried to leave the house to get a breather and i got grabbed by the arm and thrown on the floor , she sat on me and i started having an anxiety attack , she was screaming at me and threatened to call the cops . just the other night she told me i choose to be upset all the time and all i ever do is ruin the day because i’m always upset . i’ve told her many times i want help and she doesn’t care . i’m scared to come home sometimes , she compares me to other people including my closest friends . my friends think my mom is terrible , they’re afraid of her . there’s so much more but yea , i hate my mom .

    Hello there,

Thank you for reaching out to NRS and having the strength to share your story with us. We’re sorry to hear about how your mom has been treating you. You do not deserve to be talked to or treated that way (you ARE NOT any of those things she said) and we want to commend you for having the bravery to do the best you can in a difficult situation.
We are sorry to hear that you are coping with depression and other issues. If you were interested in professional mental health services again, a good resource could be the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) at 1-877-726-4727 and online at Additionally, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is a resource with support groups among other services, at 1-800-950-NAMI and online at Depending on your state, you may be able to access these resources for a short time without her direct approval.
Regarding your own well-being, we would like to affirm again that you are valuable to your friends and other loved ones, and your mother’s words and actions say much more about her than they do about you. We understand that while she is your guardian and that this can make taking care of yourself more difficult, at some point in your life you will not have to live with her and put up with the things she says. Until that day comes, we would encourage you to look into coping mechanisms, whether it’s listening to music, reading, talking with friends or engaging in a physical activity, that will help keep you centered.
We would love to talk more about the details of your situation so that we can work towards a solution that you find acceptable. If you would like to share more, please feel free to call our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or use our Live Chat.
We hope this information was helpful and take care.
