My dad is always yelling at me and after my mom and dad divorced, My mom has always been on her phone. I feel unwanted and want to run away. What do I do?

Divorce can be hard, but no one deserves to be yelled at all the time and felt unwanted. We’re not legal experts here at NRS. Generally it’s not illegal to leave home, but your parents could file a runaway report, the police could get involved, and they could bring you home. The people you’re staying with could potentially get charged with “harboring,” if your parents did not give you permission to stay there.

Counseling could also be another option for everyone to have a safe place to voice how they feel. Your school could help you either individually or find referrals for you and your family. You deserve to be heard and counseling might be a good place to voice how you feel.

For example, it may be hard for you to explain to your mom and dad how you feel about the divorce and how they are treating you.
