I've giving running away to the woods behind my house a lot of thought. My friends could bring me food. I watch survivorman a lot and i kno how to catch food. It's easy to hide but it's only in the 40s during the day and drops down to the 20s at night so id have to bring warm clothes and blankets

    Re: woods

Thank you for taking the time to contact us at the National Runaway Switchboard. It sounds like you have taken a lot of thought at the option of running away to the woods behind your house. How long have you thought about this? Do you think your plan is realistic? If you do leave and go to the woods, how do you think your parent (s/ or guardian) will react?

You mentioned concern over the temperature. How would you keep warm when it drops to 20 degrees? You said that you would have to have your friends bring you warm clothes and blankets, but what would you do as far as shelter? Would you feel safe? What are some alternative options that you have thought of besides going to the woods?

We hope some of these questions help you think about your situation. If you would like to discuss any of these issues further, you are welcome to call us at our hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY. We are available 24 hours and are anonymous and confidential.

    Best of luck,

    NRS

      Re: woods

the people who live next to the woods built a tree house which they never use and if i cant use that ive watched survivorman enough to know how to make my own shelter.

        Re: woods

Thank you for continuing to share your story. It sounds like you are still considering running to the woods.
We are not legal experts here, but do you think the people would be okay having you on their property? It is generally not illegal to runaway, but it is illegal to harbor a runaway. If your neighbors knew you were in their tree house, they could potentially get in trouble for harboring you if you leave. Do you think your parents would pursue a charge of this nature? These charges can vary from state to state, but can generally be answered by the police or legal aid. If you would like to call us, we can provide you with these referrals.

We hope this helps and if you need further assistance, we can be reached at 1-800-RUNAWAY.
