  • I'm scared and want to leave, please help.

    Hey,
I'm a 12 year old girl and feel really uncomfortable in my current family, my parents yell at each other all the time and my brother always threatens me and hits/chokes me, but whenever I go to my dad to talk about it he acts very aggressively towards my brother so I'm scared to tell him whenever my brother is bothering me. I'm getting really anxious and depressed by living here and I'm also really worried about wether or not my dad is abusive towards my brother or if he's being bullied at school or something, but when I try to talk to him about it he avoids the subject or gets angry with me... I'm getting really afraid of my brother and I really don't know what to do and really want to leave...

RE: I'm scared and want to leave, please help.

    Hi there,

It sounds like things are very difficult at home with your brother. Thank you for sharing your situation with us. First off, of course you have the right to feel safe emotionally and physically in your home and we at NRS want to help to make sure you have the resources you need to be safe. Have you talked to anyone else (such as another family member or teacher) about what is going on at home? Perhaps there is someone else in your home (like your mom or another family member) who can help you talk to your dad about your brother and come up with a way for your dad to stop your brother in a way that is safe for both you and him. At NRS we are here 24/7, completely confidential and here to help in any way we can including providing you with resources, helping to answer questions, discussing your options, or just talking. We can be reached via our online chat at www.1800runaway.org or on the phone at 1-800-786-2929. We hope to hear from you soon.

    Best of Luck,
    NRS
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
