  • If my parents give me consent to leave their house, can i go?

Im 15 and live in Florida. My father and I were having an argument and he said that if I wanted to leave their house and live somewhere else, I could. If I were to leave and go to a friend’s house, even for a day, could my parents report me as a runaway and possibly get my friend’s parent in legal trouble? Thank you!

Thank you for reaching out to us. We'll try to help you.

It seems that you want to move out of your home and live with a friend. We are not legal experts but if you leave without your parents' permission and they file a runaway report, the police might look for you and return you home if they find you. Your friend's parents might get in trouble for harboring a minor. However, if your father gives you permission, that would be fine.

If you feel unsafe or just need to talk, feel free to call us at 1-800-RUNAWAY. We are here 24/7 and are confidential.

    Good luck.
