Running Away?

I am 17 and will be 18 in about two months. My parents do a lot of name calling and have thrown things at me but have never struck me. I am dating a girl and they dont approve. They are threatening to take me out of school and move. I am contemplating running away. What should I do?

Hello and thanks for reaching out on our online forum. We’re sorry to hear your parents do a lot of name calling and throw things. Having them not support you dating a girl doesn’t sound like it would make things any easier. Even if they haven’t struck you we imagine it’s still pretty scary when this happens. We hope you realize that you don’t deserve to be mistreated or abused at home. You mentioned you only have about two months to go until 18; however, it sounds like you’re thinking of leaving before your birthday.

We aren’t legal experts, but we understand things can be easier from a legal standpoint as far as leaving home at 18 vs. 17.
