I can't stand my family. They're the cause for my depression and suicidal thoughts. I'm only 14 but I need out. I've made the plan to go to my friends house tomorrow after I get home from school. Her mom said it was okay if I stayed with them and I've already got my bags packed. I've wanted to run away for a long time now. I Remer when I was around 7 or 8 I packed a bunch of bags and walked outside with them and just walked around for awhile. I don't know why I did but that was the first time I did anything relating to running away. Around this time last year I was texting my friend and I was talking about how we should just take off for the afternoon and leave but that never happened because my mom ended up reading my text messages that night. What a coincidence right? The one time I talk about something like running away and she decides to read my messages the next day while I'm at school. So she read them and then got my dad to check me out of school shortly after she read it. And now we're here. With me and my plan to run away. Bags hidden under my bed waiting for me to come home and walk to my friends house. I know kids have fights and stuff with there parents but it's ridiculous how often I fight with mine. They don't understand me and I have no freedom. They don't let me do anything. All they do is yell at me and make me do stuff while my two brothers sit and do nothing. They make me feel like complete cap and I'm tired of it. I'm happy when I'm not home. But when I'm home I end up in tears because of something they say to me. My whole family annoy the crap out of me and im tired of it. Im constatly wanting to punch my brothers and it results in me hurting myself because ill get in trouble if i hurt them. But I was wondering if my friends mom could get in trouble in any way other then with my mom for letting me stay with her.

Re: I can't deal with them.
Hi there,
Thank you for writing to us. It sounds like an awfully stressful situation you’re in at home and it’s understandable that you would want some space away from the fighting and arguments with your parents. It seems like they put a lot of responsibility on you and you don’t feel like its fair that you have so many responsibilities and your brothers don’t. It can be really frustrating to feel like your parents aren’t listening to you and acknowledging your needs. It also sounds like running away has been on your mind for a long time and it’s great that you’re trying to plan ahead.
We’re glad to hear that you have a friend whose mom is willing to let you stay at their house. If you were to leave home without your parent’s permission, they could file a runaway report with the police. Although running away isn’t a crime, the police could force you to return home. Unfortunately, if you were to stay at your friend’s house, her mom could be at risk for harboring a runaway. This is typically a misdemeanor. Some police departments don’t always press those charges or they may only take action if your parents choose to press charges. It’s good that you are considering all of this information. If you wanted to know exactly how your local police handle harboring charges, you could call them and ask hypothetically how they handle these types of cases. If you would like to call, but don’t feel comfortable calling yourself, you can always call us and we’ll call for you.
It seems like communicating with your parents has been really challenging. Have you ever gotten any help from someone to advocate for you. Maybe your friend’s mom, a relative, or a counselor could help by being present when you talk to your parents about how much their actions are affecting your depression and well-being. Have you felt comfortable talking to any adults about how much stress you’re under?
