  • I'm 14 and I need to get out of here...

I know I probably sound like a whiny brat, but I cant stand it here any longer. My parents dont appreciate me for who I am as a person, and are constantly trying to squash my individuality. They're always yelling at me for things I never did, and just love to put the blame on me for everything. They complain about my grades, my hair, my face, my clothes. They constantly tell me that I'm fat, and simply ignore that fact that I'm depressed and suicidal. They completely ignore my asking for space, and constantly invade my privacy. My younger brother does the same kinds of things. I don't have very many friends, since I'm pretty quiet. I just feel like nobody ever cares. And, ever since I was little I've always dreamed about running away. I've had a whole plan laid out since I was 7, complete with a bag already packed, and a map with my destination already set. What the hell should I do? I know that this isnt the best environment, especially since I'm suicidal, but yet I still stay here because I dont have the courage to pull it off. I live in PA, and it's illegal to run away here. (Im pretty sure.) I'm terrified that my parents would call the cops and that they would find me. Is there a certain way to get yourself into foster care? I would love to find a family or a place with people that appreciate me for who I am, and accept my individuality. Please. Help me...

RE: I'm 14 and I need to get out of here...

    Hi there,

Thanks for contacting us here at the National Runaway Safeline (NRS). It sounds like there is a lot of stress at home with your family. It sounds unfair to be blamed for things and feel unsupported at home. You stated that you especially want to be respected and accepted for who you are. We ares sorry you are feeling unsupported by your family. You mentioned wanting to leave home but are confused with what to do, we are here to help explore your options and provide some general information on what would happen if the police find you as well as information on foster care.

You mentioned feeling suicidal, and we are concerned for your well-being. If you are feeling unsafe please contact 911 or visit your local emergency hospital for immediate help. You may also benefit from contacting the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and 1-800-273-8255 (www.suicidepreventionlifeline.com). If you call our crisis line, we would be happy to discuss more resources and options with you.

We hope that you are safe in the decision you make. We look forward to your call or chat soon!

    Take care,

    NRS
