  • I want to move out!!

I cant stand it in my house, my parents get mad over the simplest things and at 18 I plan on moving out. The only thing is im wondering if there is anything they can do legally to make me come back home or keep me from leaving. Another thing is I have a 2 year old daughter. Me and Her would be leaving Arkansas and going to a different state, I have a place to live and everything. I just want to know if there is anyway they can stop me and my daughter from moving out. They wont be happy about us leaving and will try to stop me so I just want to know what they can and cant do regarding me moving out 18. Im just really miserable here and want to be happy and have a good life for my daughter. We would be moving in with my boyfriend/fiancé. If it helps he is 19 and also im out of school so what can I do now if anything? I want to move out but don't want anything bad to happen to any of us. If I cant move out now can I at 18 with no issues.

re: I want to move out!!

    Hey there,

Thank you for being able to reach out to us here at the National Runaway Safeline. It seems like you are going through a pretty tough time at this point in your life and we want you to know that we are here to listen and to help you in the best way that we can. From what you shared, it seems like you have been going through some tough times and are ready to leave home when you are able to.

We want to start off by letting you know that we are not legal experts here, meaning that we are only able to speak in general terms. In most states, at 18 you are considered an adult, meaning that you are able to decide where you and your child want to live. If you would want more accurate answers, we would highly encourage you to reach out to your local police department and ask general questions about what age you are able to leave home. If that is something that might make you nervous, please feel free to reach out to us and we would be more than willing to call out for you.

We hope that we were able to help you think a little more about your options and brainstorm some more with you, if you feel like you would still need some more support or go through some more options, please feel free to reach out to us here at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) we are here 24/7. We also have a live chat service which is available from 4:30 PM to 11:30 PM CST. We wish you the best of luck in whatever it is you decide to do and hope to hear from you soon.

    Stay strong,

    NRS
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
