  • 16 y/o mom i want to runaway

I've wrote here before about a year ago while I was pregnant and I've still been wanting to leave.
I now have a job, wic, and am certain I cn make it on my own. I just want to know if there is any legal trouble I can get into by laving home with my son? I wont even be leaving the village im in now. I have full custody of my son. I have talked to my mom about me leaving before I was 18 many times before and she was furious with the topic. Im home alone with my 11 month old every day almost all day. And im absolutely the most loving sweet mom but when my own mom is home I have no feelings towards my son! I dislike him. She makes me go numb.

RE: 16 y/o mom i want to runaway

Hi, Thank you for reaching out to us here at the National Runaway Safeline. It sounds like you’ve been struggling for a while now with your living situation. We're glad you decided to contact us again. It’s great to hear that things are going well when it’s just you and your son. Are there any instances where things are good even if mom is around? You mentioned that you still want to leave home and that mom becomes angry when this topic comes up. We are not legal experts here at NRS but we do know that the laws on youth leaving home/running away varies. We do want to let you know that running away is not illegal, it is a status offense, which means you won't be charged with a crime but you may be returned back home. Also, any adult that allows a youth to stay in their home without parental permission could be charged with harboring a runaway. Some states do consider youth who are parents to be considered at an age of majority. We could assist you on finding out whether or not your state does. You could also look into the website Sex, Etc. org at http://sexetc.org/action-center/sex-in-the-states/ for more information. We would be happy to provide you with support and talk about the situation with you. Please feel free to contact us through phone or chat.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
