Hi there, thank you for reaching out.

We are so sorry to hear that you have experienced rape and hurtful behavior by those closest to you. You do not deserve to have this happen to you, and you deserve to be believed and supported. One really great resource for all survivors of sexual assault or abuse is RAINN (Rape Abuse Incest National Network). You can call them any time 24/7 at 1-800-656-4673, or go to www.rainn.org to use their online hotline. RAINN is the National Sexual Assault Hotline and has a lot of services, support and resources that you may find helpful. You can also call us 24/7 at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) if you need to talk.

If you haven't already, you might consider talking to a therapist or counselor about all that you have experienced and what you are currently going through. This all seems really overwhelming, and it is important that you are getting the support you need to be able to move forward. Please know that we are always her for you if you need someone to talk to. You are never alone, and you are worthy of love and respect.

  • I'm a 12 year old, and my family keeps on loving me, but then they make me cry.... This goes on almost every day, so I barely ever have a happy day
I even talked to my counselor, but nothing's changed at all.

        Hey there,

Thanks so much for reaching out and sharing a little bit about what’s been going on, we know that it takes a lot of courage. It must be really hard to live in a home with so much tension. Running away is a big decision and it can be very stressful to figure out what you want to do.

Your stepmom's actions are unacceptable and you do not deserve to be abused in any way. If you are at risk of any danger or feeling unsafe, we encourage you to reach out to 911 or seek emergency assistance immediately. If any harm or abuse is happening at home, you have the right to report it. If you feel like this is an option you want to explore, you may find this website helpful: https://www.childhelp.org/child-abuse/. We can also help you to file a report if that’s the route you are considering.

If you’d like to go over what’s going on in depth, or if you’d like to explore other options that you may have available to you, please don’t hesitate to call us at 1-800-RUNAWAY. You can also chat us by clicking on the “CHAT” button on top of our homepage. We’re open 24/7 and here to listen and support you in any way we can.

      • Hello There,
Thank you for reaching out to The National Runaway Safeline, we are here to help and here to listen. It sounds like you are going through a difficult time right now.
We are not legal experts but if you were to run away, because you are a minor your legal guardian could file a runaway report. If the police were to find you they most likely would bring you back home.
We are sorry to hear about your pet’s death, dealing with a death can be really difficult. We want you to know are not alone. You could consider talking with your mom about how you are feeling and see what options she can provide. Another option you could consider is calling us and we can help you explore options.
We hope this information will be helpful to you in your situation. If you have any other questions or would like to explore more options, please give us a call. We are here 24/7 to listen and to provide support. Best of luck!

Hi, thank you for reaching out to us; we are glad that you did. You are very smart for finding us and asking for help with a really hard situation.

We are based in the USA, but I found a resource for you in Croatia and we will give you that number below.

It is understandable that since you are already dealing with cancer and your family not understanding your dream of being and actor, that you feel like running away. Since you can’t control some aspects of your life, it may feel like running away is a way to take control. But running away is a very difficult way of life, so we are glad that you found us.

In Croatia, you can call Hrabri Telephon (Brave Phone) at 116-111 and the people there will listen to you and help you to come up with a plan to feel better at home.

            We hope this helps.
            Sincerely,
            NRS

        • Im 12 years old and i've been planning on running away i have a total of 200 dollars saved up for food i just think that i need to find my self because for the last 4 months i've been suicidal. cant tell anyone at school cause every teacher seems fake, my emotions been making me give up on school and lose confidence in myself im doing poorly in school and yes i embarrass myself. i don't live with my parents i live with my grandparents but is every worse i get verbally abused and emotionally even though some days they can be the sweetest people ever i have and older sister who is 14 and they swear that shes not their favorite but its so hard to believe that because of the way they treat her and then the treat me like ********. sometimes i wish i was not even born. I have a few friends at school but i always feel as if they expect something from me they only talk to me when something is wrong as if i'm their therapist i cant even say how i feel because their response is don't think like that or we love u cause u they actually loved me and meant it i wouldn't be feeling this way.

            Hello There,
Thank you for reaching out to The National Runaway Safeline and sharing a little bit of your story, it takes great courage to reach out and we are so glad that you decided to reach out to us. It sounds like you are dealing with a lot right now and we want you to know that you are not alone. If you are feeling suicidal there is always someone willing to listen and willing to provide support to you. You can contact The National Suicide Prevention Hotline at: 1800-273-8255.
You mentioned wanting to run away, we are not legal experts but we do have some information. If you were to leave home without permission your legal guardian does have the right to file a runaway report. If the police were to find you they most likely would bring you home. It is great that you have money saved, but there may be a few things you might want to know. Because of your age it may be hard for you to find a place to stay, as most shelters may contact CPS or your legal guardian. Also it could be dangerous on the streets. If you need help looking for a safe place we can help you look if you chat with us or give us a call.
Also you mentioned not trusting your teachers or people at school to talk about things, which is perfectly fine. A resource that may be helpful to you is called NAMI (national alliance for mental illnesses(. They can be reached at 1800-950-NAMI.
We hope that this information will be helpful to you in your situation. If you have any other questions or would like to explore more options please give us a call. We are here 24/7 to listen and to provide support. Best of luck!

        • I'm 12 and I want to run away or die.

Everyday I am trapped inside my house with my parents making me even more depressed than I already am... I have severe depression and severe anxiety and I am in my home due to the sickness covid19 I hate every minute of it because I can not see my friends. My parents ho out and have fun and have their friends over, but I have to sit around the house doing school work and chores because I can see my friend. Soon I am either going to run away or kill myself. If I run away I just dont know where to go.

            Hello There,
Thank you so much for reaching out to The National Runaway Safeline, we are here to help and here to listen.
It sounds like you are going through a really stressful time right now. We understand with everything going on with COVID19 things can be even more depressing and isolated. It can be tough to be at home all day doing chores and homework. We want you to know that you are not alone, and people all over the country are going through something similar.
One option to consider is to try and do activities at home you enjoy. For example, watching your favorite movie or drawing a cool picture. Trying to find things to keep you busy during these times will help.
We want you to know that your life is valuable and that you are important. If you are ever having suicidal thoughts, please contact The National Suicide Prevention Hotline at: 1800-273-8255. There is always someone willing to listen and willing to provide support.
We are not legal experts but we can tell you what may happen if you were to run away. Your legal guardian does have the right to file a runaway report. If the police were to find you they most likely would bring you back home. If you do decide leaving is your best option you could see if you could stay with friends or other family members.
We hope that this information will be helpful to you in your situation. If you have any other questions or would like to explore options please give us a call. We are here 24/7 to listen and to provide support. Best of luck!
