  • I’m 16 and my mom wants to kick me out

I don’t know what to do. I can never please my mother. I got a job like she asked my grades are maintained and I do not do drugs or anything of that sort even though many people that I work with do drugs. She keeps threatening me to kick me out and she has done it before keeping me in the streets till 3am and finally letting me in after a neighbor came outside. I don’t know what to do anymore. Nothing satisfies her

Thank you for reaching out to us here at National Runaway Safeline. We understand that it takes courage to seek help. We are very sorry to hear about the way your home has been treating you. Since you are a minor, it is illegal for your mom to kick you out. You could contact the police and she could get charged with neglect. You could try asking another family member or close friend if they would allow you to stay with them. Child Help (1-800-422-4453) is a great resource to explore your options and get information on how to transfer custody. Since you have a job, you may want to consider looking into emancipation laws for your state as well. We hope that this information is helpful, please feel free to contact us directly via our 24 hour crisis hotline (1-800-786-2929).
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
