  • I don't feel safe at home

My parents tend to fight a lot and then take it out on me.. I have severe depression and they make it worse. They always tell me tl get away from what makes me want to cut but they make me want to.. I really want to run away as they are abusing me mentally.. They only really care for my younger sister.. And they tell their friends about me and lie about things I do.. I don't feel safe at home anymore and it's getting to where I want to run away or die..

Thank you for reaching out to us here at National Runaway Safeline. We understand that it takes courage to seek help. We are very sorry to hear that you fight with your parents a lot. Abuse is never okay and you don't deserve to be treated that way. Although it is hard to prove, you have the right to report the abuse. You could contact CPS or Child Help (1-800-786-2929), Child Help could help you explore your options and get information on how to transfer custody. You stated that you want to runaway or die. Although you are going through a tough time at home, you are not alone. Your life matters ! Talking to someone about how you feel could help. The National Suicide Lifeline is a great resource for support. You mentioned that you want to runaway, having a plan about where you would go and how you would take care of yourself is important. If you decide to runaway, your family has the right to file a runaway report. With a runaway report, if the police find you they may return you home. Running away isn't against the law but if you were to stay with a friend, they could get charged with harboring a runaway. The easiest way to leave home would be with your parents permission. You could also look into emancipation laws for your state. Please feel free to contact us directly via our 24 hour crisis hotline (1-800-786-2929), email, or live chat if you have any questions or just want to talk.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
