Hey, tonight I am running away. I am only wondering, where will I go if my parents don't want me back? Please I need help before tonight. I tried calling but I had to hang up because my parents heard me talking. Also, I know this is a silly question, but how do take the bus?

Hello there, thanks for reaching out today. Sounds like you are planning on leaving tonight and concerned that your parents would not take you back. That seems really stressful.

We are not legal experts but we can answer your questions generally. If you leave home, your parents are still required by law to take you back if you return home. If they do not allow you back, it could be considered neglect by child protective services and you would have the right to report it. Since they are your legal guardians they typically have to house you or find an alternative living arrangement for you until your turn 18 years old. To learn more about your reporting rights you might reach out to the experts child advocates at Child Help 1-800-422-4453.

Unfortunately, there are many bus systems that are all run differently so we cannot advise you on how to take your local one. You might try to search the bus times and the way you pay for it only. If you call or chat us we might be able to direct you better. Please do not hesitate to call us at 1-800-RUNAWAY or chat us online if you would like to talk further. We are here to listen, here to help.

Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
