  • I basically live alone but my dad still wants to control me, I need to leave

my life has been a mess from the start. I’m 16 and I currently live in an apartment that I moved into about 7 months ago. Prior to this apartment I lived with my dad, stepmom and 4 brothers. My oldest brother began running away when he was 16 and my dad got fed up so he let him go live with my grandma and he is now 18. Now that I’m 16 I’m experiencing all the issues he was and I ran away a couple weeks ago but got caught. In December of 2017 I moved out of the house into this apartment that is right down the street. Technically my dad and I moved out but he still spends all his time at the house with his wife and other children. I’m stuck in this apartment alone all day with no phone because he took it. I would like to move in with my grandma just like my brother did but for some unknown reason my dad won’t let me. I’m trying to get a social worker but I don’t really know how. I’m open to any advice on how to leave my dad and go live with someone else who will give me the attention and affection that I so desperately want and need, thank you.

We're glad you reached out to us. We'll try to help. It's unfortunate that you feel that your life has been so difficult. It sounds like your father is not certain what he wants to do and is putting you in a hard place. Without a phone it will be a problem to get some help but if you have a computer you might try to look up CHILD HELP.ORG and see if they can offer you assistance. You might also try to reach out to your grandmother to explain the situation or to neighbors and friends. You deserve to get attention and affection. Another possibility is to try to talk with your father to let him see how you feel and what you need. We are always here. Feel free to contact us anytime of day or night. Good luck.
