Hi, my boyfriend is 17 years old. Today he decided to leave his home because of the mental and verbal abuse that is caused by his mom. She is manipulative and a pathological liar, she does and says anything to get her way and sadly it’s worked. DCF has been called on her multiple times yet nothing has happened to help him or his younger siblings. The last call was a few months ago actually and the whole meeting and speaking with an officer didn’t work out because instead of doing as they are supposed to (or what they said that would do) the officer that came out talked to the mother first. All I’m asking is how do I get DCF to listen to my boyfriend for once and not to his mother

Thank you for reaching out to us here at National Runaway Safeline (NRS). We understand that it takes courage to seek help. We are sorry to hear about the way your boyfriend and his siblings have been treated by his mother. It is unfortunate that DCFS haven't done much. We have noticed that it is harder to prove mental and verbal abuse. However your boyfriend still has the right to report the abuse. He could try contacting the national child abuse hotline , Child Help (1-800-422-4453) to discuss more options that he has, they also provide information on how to transfer custody. We hope that this information helps, if you have any other questions please feel free to contact us directly via our 24 hour crisis hotline (1-800-786-2929).Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
