Re: Wanting to move out at 17
Hello there,
Thanks for reaching out on our online forum. It sounds like you’re having an incredibly difficult time living with your aunt and you’re considering leaving home at age 17. Congratulations on landing a job at McDonald’s. Although it sounds like quite a bit to juggle, it sounds like you’re on track to graduating early in December which is great!
As far as what will happen if you leave prior to 18 (age of legal adulthood in most states), that can depend both on how your legal guardian as well as local law enforcement react. You mentioned you wouldn’t be able to afford moving out on your own, so it seems like finding someone to help you or some place to go might factor in to your plan as well. Please know we’re here if you’d like to continue talking about your situation and hopefully together we can come up with a plan. We can also search to see what types of local resources are available to you if we know your city/state. If you prefer talking online, we do offer Live Chat which you are welcome to try. Hopefully this gives you a start and best of luck! Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
