  • 18, Possibly Pregnant, and Almost Homeless!

Okay so I've been living with my boyfriend for about 3 months now, we live with his mom in a 1 bedroom apartment. His mom works overnight, she's never really home either. His older sister was pregnant and wanted to move into the apartment to be closer to her mom. She now has the bedroom, and we sleep on an air mattress in the living room. We've been paying his mom to help out with rent and bills, but she's been using our money for everything but all of that. She's now 3 months behind on rent and the electric bill and she refuses to pay it. She says she's just gonna hand in the apartment. His sister is never home either now, she's always at her boyfriend's house. She hasn't been home in weeks. The room to the door is locked. Since she hasn't payed the bill, there's no power in the house. We can't charge our phones, we can't turn on the lights, we have to use candles at night, we can't even fill up our air mattress and we've been sleeping on the floor for a few days now. There's also no hot water, we have to boil water in a huge pot just to shower.
She's gonna hand in the apartment sometime soon, she won't tell us when. But we just need to get out before she does because we don't want to end up homeless.
There's also a chance that I might be pregnant, I don't know for sure yet, but I know that I've been feeling all the symptoms. I don't believe in abortion, but I don't want to bring a child into the world and have it suffer or be hungry because of the situation I'm in.
Going back to my parent's house is not an option. I have many reasons why I refuse to go back, and they also wouldn't let me back if they knew I was pregnant because of how strict they are.
Every shelter my boyfriend and I have gone to, to try and get help say that they would send me back to my parents house and put my boyfriend in a men's shelter. That's not what we want, we would like to stay together because we feel we should go through all of this together, especially since I might be pregnant.
Anyone know what I might be able to do? Where I can turn for help? Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

    Hi there,

Often, youth may reach out to NRS in several different ways to discuss their situation. If a response from NRS is not visible to a bulletin posting it may be that we have already provided services to that individual through another platform we provide such as email, our crisis hotline, or our live chat service (in operation every day from 4:30p to 11:30p CST). NRS encourages anyone in need of assistance to contact us through our 24 hour crisis hotline at 1-800-RUNAWAY to receive immediate support.

    Thanks,
    NRS
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
