Reply: We're 13 and need to run away
Hello,
Thank you for writing to us here at the National Runaway Safeline.
We understand it takes great courage to reach out, and we appreciate you sharing a little bit about what’s going on.
We want you to know that we are here as support to help you during this most difficult time.
It sounds like your friends are having an extreme time coping with their situations at home.
Things had gotten so bad that they attempted suicide, it’s not their fault that others are mistreating them. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
Sometimes when communication breaks down with someone you are close to you making it difficult to know just where to turn. You did well reaching out today. We would like you to know NRS is here to listen and here to help.
As of right now you’re feeling like leaving is one of your only options.
Often, having a safe space to share how you’re feeling may bring a variety of solutions previously not thought of.
As for anyone thinking about suicide they might consider contacting the National Suicide prevention lifeline 1-800-273-8255.
Reaching out was a good first step in talking about your situation.
It shows that you care about your friends. They are lucky to have you to support.
If you or your friends would like t talk more about your situation, please contact NRS at 1-800-Runaway (786-2929) or www.1800Runaway.org
Hope to hear from you soon.
Take care,
NRS

We're 13 and need to run away
Me and 3 friends are having issues. One is being abused, and the rest have suffered emotionally. A couple have tried killing themselves more than once. Our families aren't treating us right. One is trans and isn't accepted, the other is bi and has the same problem. We have a place to go during the summer. I don't know how we're going to get across a couple of states, though. We don't have many details figured out yet, we're working on it. We need to leave, but we need to figure out how. One wants to run away permanently. I don't know about the rest yet.
Help me out here. I can't leave the one who'd being abused physically by her parents to suffer any longer, and it kills me that I can't do anything about it unless I run away.Tags: None
