  • My younger brother

I currently dont live with my little brother or mother. My younger brother who is 16 has gotten very aggressive and he hit our mother multiple times. My mother tried to send him to his father or to our older sister who would take him but he said he rather live on the street. We tried to talk to him on multiple occasions but he yelled and didn't even want to hear it and walked out. So his father tried to talk to him into going with him but he left and hasn't come back home. My mother is giving him 24 hours before she makes a police run away report. My mother didn't kick him out so I would like to know the best course of action to take, please I need advice to help my family

    Hi,
Thanks for reaching out. It sounds like your family is in a tight spot right now. Making a runaway report is usually a good first step; we do encourage parents to make runaway reports right away. This both helps officials locate your brother as soon as possible and prevents your parents from getting into any legal trouble if something happens to your brother while he’s gone (like if he runs into legal trouble or finds himself in a dangerous situation). We would also encourage you to reach out to your brother through social media, as often young people continue to check their social media. You can also call his friends or other family members he might be with. It sounds like the situation has become difficult for your whole family. Once he returns, it might be an option to pursue therapy or counseling. If that fails, it is also possible to seek court intervention for him. If you need more information about that, feel free to give us a call.
Thank you again for reaching out. We hope this was helpful and we encourage you to reach out by phone if you need additional resources or need help figuring out your options.
